The event, held at the Hotel Somerset, is sponsored and attended by William James, M.A. DeWolfe Howe, John Singer Sargent, Ellery Sedgwick, and others. After dinner and coffee, Lowell lights a cigar and reads “Lilacs” and “A Tulip Garden” to great applause.
